The Unofficial Square to Square Marathon

The Unofficial Square to Square Marathon

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to complete a run that I never thought I would.  I ran from the Bentonville Square to the Fayetteville Square.  Last year, Rush Running threw together an “unofficial” marathon for those crazy enough to complete it.  A number of people made the attempt and had a great time doing it.  This year, they gave 5 months notice and gathered about 150 people to make the attempt.  Unfortunately, they chose to run it on Sunday.  For this pastor, Sundays are never a great day to run.  I contacted the Rush Running team and they told me that since it was an “unofficial” race, I could make the run and turn in my Garmin info.  So early on Saturday morning, my wife dropped me and my son off at Bentonville Square where we joined with 4 others to make the attempt.  Of the runners, only 3 of us completed the run.  It wasn’t a stellar performance, but it was still a great day.  I ran it in 5 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds.  The best part of the day was that my son rode his bike with me the whole way.

Saturday, I made a memory.  I will forever remember the day that my son rode his bike while I ran from Bentonville to Fayetteville.  It was great to complete my 4th marathon (which was technically my 2nd ultra as well), but nothing beats doing something hard with my son.

Are you making memories with your family?  On May 17th, my wife and son will be joining me for my 2nd Warrior Dash.  I can’t wait.  Go find something that you and your family can do together.  Run.  Bike.  Hike.  Walk.  Get moving with the family.
