I am horrible about taking vacations.  I struggle because I really like what I do.  As a youth pastor (or pastor), many of us feel guilty about taking time away from our churches.  The church supports us.  They love us.  They provide for us.  Why do we need to get away from them?

The answer is found in Jesus’ example.  Even Jesus took time away from His ministry to recharge and renew (Matt. 14:23; Luke 5:16).  Jesus knew that time away would make Him stronger.  While I may feel guilty, I have to remember that time away will make me stronger and give me the ability to impact lives for the Cause of Christ.

If I want to be a healthy pastor, I must spend some time away from the people that I minister to.  And, that means more than just a 40 minute run…
